DPSCS Religious Services
Religious Services Overview
The Religious Services unit offers ceremonies and activities in correctional facilities to support spiritual needs. These services are important for rehabilitation. Chaplains and religious volunteers lead these activities. They are trained and endorsed by religious groups. They provide ceremonies for people in prison, no matter their faith or beliefs.
Chaplains manage the programs and oversee volunteers. Volunteers help the Chaplains reach out to people in prison. Chaplains offer spiritual care and help people make good choices, regardless of their faith. Chaplains and religious services are available in all facilities.
You can arrange to attend religious services, get religious items, or request a meeting with a Chaplain by submitting a written request through the facility Chaplain.
Faith and Dietary Support
Religious Services support a range of faith traditions. People in prison can choose their religious group when they arrive or during orientation.
- Dietary Restrictions:Religious Services help with dietary restrictions and provide options like vegetarian, Halal, and Kosher food through the Religious Diet Program.
- Grief and Health Support: They also offer support during tough times, such as the loss of a loved one or serious illness. Chaplains can provide spiritual counseling, visit the hospital, or just listen.
- Clergy Visits: Visits from clergy can be arranged with approval.
