Congratulations to the 15 graduates of the Aramark IN2WORK program at Baltimore City Correctional Center (BCCC)!
This workforce development program provides participants with hands-on training in food service, safety, and teamwork while helping them earn industry-recognized certifications that prepare them for employment after release.
The ceremony featured encouraging remarks from Secretary Carolyn J. Scruggs, who recognized the graduates’ dedication and commitment to building a brighter future. Guests also enjoyed a delicious meal prepared as part of the program, highlighting the valuable skills the graduates have developed along the way.
The Youth Detention Center (YDC) in Baltimore recently hosted a joyful Valentine’s Day dance to celebrate youth who have remained infraction-free — recognizing their hard work, positive choices, and commitment to personal growth.
The evening was filled with encouragement and support as family members joined the celebration alongside partners from the Behavioral Health System Baltimore in collaboration with Links Program of Baltimore. We also thank Judge Emanuel Brown for attending and sharing words of inspiration with our youth.
A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff and community partners who donated clothing, shoes, and provided haircuts, helping the youth look their best and feel confident for this special occasion.
Moments like these remind us how powerful support, recognition, and community can be in helping young people thrive.

Maryland DPSCS Secretary Carolyn J. Scruggs and her team went hands-on with one of our firearms simulators at the MD Police & Correctional Training Commissions, gaining firsthand insight into how the technology works and how it strengthens real-world training.

Congratulations to Tanja Murphy, Education Program Manager for DPSCS, on being selected to represent Maryland in a national fellowship through the Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE)!
Through this fellowship, Tanja will receive advanced training to effectively support, elevate, and speak with purpose about the critical role education plays in correctional settings and support continued learning across our system. We’re proud to see her leadership recognized on a national level. "I am your Maryland State Advocate.
