The Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards advises the secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services regarding standards for state, local and privately-operated correctional facilities. More Info

The Division of Capital Construction and Facility Maintenance is the division within the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services responsible for the planning, budgeting, and design of capital and maintenance projects at correctional facilities statewide. More Info

The correctional side of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services includes all Maryland state prisons. Dedicated professionals oversee 24 prisons and pre-release centers whose mission is to protect the public by securing sentenced criminals and preparing most of them to return to their communities. Offenders on parole and probation, living in our neighborhoods and working in our businesses, require supervision and guidance to keep focused on the ultimate goal of overcoming the "revolving door" of the criminal justice system. The Division of Parole and Probation ensures these offenders are meeting these goals while upholding individual requirements set forth by courts and the Parole Commission. More Info

The Baltimore Pretrial Complex annually holds more detainees than any local jurisdiction in Maryland. It offers a wide array of mental health, social, educational, recreational, spiritual, and rehabilitative programs. More Info

The Information Technology and Communications Division (ITCD) provides automated criminal justice information services for criminal justice and non-criminal justice purposes to the department, other federal, state, and local criminal justice agencies, and authorized users among the general public. The Inmate Grievance Office has jurisdiction over all incarcerated individual grievance complaints against Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services officials and employees. More Info

The Intelligence and Investigative Division conducts criminal and administrative investigations of serious misconduct within the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. More Info

The Maryland Parole Commission is charged with determining on a case-by-case basis whether incarcerated individual s serving sentences of six months or more in state or local facilities are suitable for release into the community under certain conditions or supervision by the Division of Parole and Probation.
