This week, we celebrate National Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week, an occasion dedicated to honoring our nearly 1,000 employees who play vital roles in these crucial areas of public safety.
Our Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) stands out among state correctional agencies, overseeing not only prisons and community supervision, but also pretrial supervision. This week, we recognize and commend not just our dedicated statewide Parole and Probation employees but also our Baltimore-based Pretrial Release Services Unit and the team at Central Home Detention, who effectively serve as community supervision agents.
The work these professionals do is critical and often goes unrecognized. They are dedicated individuals who strive to change lives and enhance public safety. Their roles encompass far more than just enforcement; they are actively involved in seeking out programs and services designed to change the trajectory of lives and behaviors, provide direction, and leave a transforming impact on the lives they encounter.
I encourage each of you to take a moment this week to thank an agent. Their unwavering commitment and hard work deserve our highest praise and deepest gratitude.
With respect and appreciation,
Secretary Carolyn J. Scruggs
