Medical Internal Audit Unit (MIAU)

Medical Internal Audit Unit

The MIAU is a professional unit consisting of five Internal Auditors, a Lead Internal Auditor, an Internal Auditor Program Supervisor, and Director. The unit operates under the direction of the Assistant Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), Office of Programs, Treatment, and Reentry Services.

The Director manages the DPSCS healthcare contracts to ensure the delivery of comprehensive medical services including primary and specialty care to more than 18,000 incarcerated individuals across all pretrial and DOC facilities. Also, the Director oversees the MIAU auditors as they conduct compliance audits to ensure that contracted healthcare services comply with contract terms, applicable state and federal regulations, and established standards of care. In addition to compliance auditing, the auditors collaborate with clinical leadership, the chief medical officer, director of nursing, and director of mental health services, to assess quality and verify that care meets accepted clinical standards.
