Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

I. Overview

Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990: People with disabilities in Maryland's correctional facilities or under community supervision can ask for reasonable accommodations.

Non-Discrimination Policies: The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) has rules to ensure that people with disabilities are not treated unfairly with regard to facility access, services, programs, and activities provided by the department. This includes incarcerated individuals, parolees, visitors, and volunteers.

Access and Services: The Director of ADA Services helps manage compliance with Title II of the ADA within the DPSCS facilities and the DPP. Each DPSCS facility and Parole and Probation office has an ADA Coordinator to handle disability-related requests and complaints.
